Abstract

Abstract This study examines girl child education in Nigeria and its importance to national development. Education is a fundamental human right and a powerful tool for empowering individuals and promoting sustainable socio-economic growth. Despite various government policies and international initiatives, many girls in Nigeria still face barriers to accessing quality education due to poverty, cultural beliefs, early marriage, insecurity, gender discrimination, and inadequate educational facilities. The study adopted a descriptive research approach using questionnaires, interviews, and secondary data from books, journals, and government publications. The findings revealed that girl child education contributes significantly to economic development, poverty reduction, improved health, and gender equality. However, several challenges continue to hinder girls' access to education. The study concludes that increasing investment in girl child education is essential for achieving national development and recommends stronger government policies, community awareness, and improved educational opportunities for girls.
