BEING A PROJECT REPORT SUBMITTED TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES, FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC ILARO, OGUN STATE, IN PARTIAL FULFILMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE AWARD OF HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRA
Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between workplace diversity and job satisfaction in
tertiary institutions, with a focus on Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro. Workplace diversity,
encompassing differences in gender, age, educational background, ethnicity, and work
experience, has increasingly become a significant factor influencing employee attitudes and
organizational outcomes. The research seeks to determine how diversity practices impact the
level of satisfaction among employees, and whether inclusiveness in the workplace contributes to
improved morale, motivation, and overall performance. A descriptive research design was
adopted, and data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to both
academic and non-academic staff of the institution. The data were analyzed using statistical tools
such as frequency distribution, correlation, and regression analysis to test the hypotheses
formulated. Findings from the study reveal that workplace diversity positively influences job
satisfaction when effectively managed, particularly in areas of fair treatment, equal opportunities,
and recognition of individual differences. However, challenges such as communication barriers,
resistance to change, and perceived discrimination were identified as potential drawbacks to
diversity management. The study concludes that workplace diversity, if properly harnessed,
enhances job satisfaction and strengthens institutional performance. It recommends that Federal
Polytechnic Ilaro should adopt inclusive policies, provide diversity training, and foster a culture
of equity and respect to maximize the benefits of a diverse workforce.
