Abstract

Abstract Access to safe and clean drinking water is essential for public health and well-being, yet many communities, particularly in rural areas, continue to face challenges related to water quality. This study aims to assess the quality of water from a hand-dug well in Gwallameji, with a focus on understanding community perceptions, concerns, and health impacts. A systematic sampling approach was employed to select sampling sites throughout the study area, and water samples were collected and analyzed for physicochemical and biological parameters and contaminants. A community survey was conducted to gather information on water usage patterns, perceptions of water quality, and health concerns related to drinking water from the hand-dug well. The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the current state of water quality in Gwallameji and highlight the need for targeted interventions to address contamination risks and safeguard public health. Community engagement and awareness-raising efforts are essential for promoting sustainable water management practices and ensuring access to safe and clean drinking water for all residents of Gwallameji.
