AUTOMATIC WATER DISPENSER FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED
Abstract
Automatic water dispensers play a pivotal role in enhancing accessibility and convenience in water access, particularly for individuals with visual impairments. This paper presents an innovative design concept for an automatic water dispenser tailored specifically for visually impaired users. The proposed dispenser incorporates tactile and auditory cues to facilitate independent operation, with tactile buttons and raised symbols enabling easy differentiation between water temperature options (hot, cold, or room temperature) and cup dispensing functions. An auditory feedback system provides clear and distinct cues throughout the dispensing process, ensuring accurate cup placement and notifying users when the filling process is complete. Safety mechanisms are integrated to prevent spills and accidents, while customizable settings allow users to personalize their dispensing experience. The design prioritizes user-friendly interaction and intuitive operation, aiming to empower visually impaired individuals with autonomy and dignity in accessing clean drinking water. Through a multidisciplinary approach blending principles of inclusive design, assistive technology, and human-computer interaction, this automatic water dispenser represents a significant advancement in addressing the unique needs of visually impaired users in everyday life.
