EFFECT OF DIFFERENT WEEDING REGIMES ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF ROSELLE (HIBISCUS SABDARIFFA L.) IN GASHUA YOBE STATE
Abstract
It is concluded that the timing and frequency of weeding greatly influence the growth and yield of Roselle in Gashua. Two weedings at 2 & 4 WAS (T3) produced the highest calyx yield and best overall performance. The regime effectively controlled weeds during the critical growth stages of Roselle and minimized competition. The study therefore establishes that early weed control within the first six weeks is essential for maximizing Roselle production (Timely weeding intervention). The study confirms that the critical weed competition period for Roselle is 3–6 WAS in Gashua.
