Abstract

The aim of this study is to assess the kidney function of male wistar rats fed different spp of phaseolus vulgaris. The feed consist of formulated paste of phaseolus vulgaris of various composition. Twenty-five adult male Wistar rats of comparable weights (100 ± 20g) were used for this study which was shared into five (5) groups: Group 1 (control group), Group 2 (25% white beans diet group), Group 3 (50% white beans diet group), Group 4 (25% brown beans diet group) and Group 5 (50% brown beans diet group) comprised of five (5) male wistar rats in each group. At the end of the treatment, the animals were cervically decapitated and dissected along the lateral side of the neck to assess the jugular vein. 2 ml of blood samples were collected into EDTA bottles for assessment of kidney function parameters. The weight of the kidney significantly increase (p0.05) in the blood urea, plasma sodium and plasma chloride level compared to the control group but significantly decrease (p
