Abstract

ABSTRACT This project focuses on the design and development of Multimedia Computer-Aided Learning Software for Teaching Bag Production in Abdu Gusau Polytechnic. The study was motivated by the challenges associated with the conventional method of teaching bag production, which often relies heavily on verbal explanations and demonstrations that may not adequately meet the learning needs of all students. The research aimed to develop an interactive multimedia learning package that integrates text, graphics, audio, animation, and video to enhance the teaching and learning of bag production skills. The study adopted a system development approach involving requirement analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and evaluation. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires administered to lecturers and students involved in entrepreneurship and vocational training programmes. The software was developed using suitable multimedia development tools and designed to provide step-by-step instructional materials on bag production techniques. The findings revealed that multimedia-based instruction enhances students' understanding, retention, motivation, and practical skills acquisition compared to traditional teaching methods. The developed software provides learners with the opportunity to learn at their own pace and revisit instructional content whenever necessary. The study concluded that Multimedia Computer-Aided Learning Software is an effective tool for improving vocational and entrepreneurship education in tertiary institutions. It was therefore recommended that polytechnics and other vocational institutions integrate multimedia learning technologies into their instructional processes to improve students' learning outcomes and practical competence.
