DEVELOPMENT OF AN ONLINE PLATFORM FOR PROMOTION OF WOMEN ENTREPRENEURIAL ACTIVITIES
Abstract
This project presents the design and implementation of an online platform developed to promote women entrepreneurial activities in Enugu State, Nigeria. The platform was motivated by the need to provide female entrepreneurs with increased visibility, connectivity, and access to digital tools that support business growth. It was developed using a modular approach, with React.js employed for front-end development, PHP for backend logic, and MySQL for database management. The system comprises several key modules, including user registration and authentication, personalized dashboards, product and service listings, messaging and feedback, admin control, and content/news updates. A robust development environment was established using tools such as Visual Studio Code, XAMPP, GitHub, and Postman. The user interface was designed to be responsive and accessible, ensuring compatibility across a range of devices and screen sizes. System functionality and usability were rigorously tested using unit testing, integration testing, usability testing, and security assessments. Key security measures-such as password hashing, input validation, and session control-were implemented to safeguard user data and interactions. The database design followed the principles of relational modeling and normalization to ensure data integrity and support scalability. Upon completion, the system was deployed on both a local server (using XAMPP) and a live hosting environment, making it accessible via the web. Deployment steps included file uploads, database configuration, domain setup, and SSL certificate installation. Comprehensive documentation was prepared to support future maintenance and scalability, including user guides, admin manuals, and technical references. Overall, the platform successfully meets its objectives by offering an intuitive, secure, and scalable digital space tailored to the unique needs of women entrepreneurs. It stands as a valuable tool for digital empowerment and socioeconomic inclusion in the region.
