Abstract

Vehicle theft remains a major global issue, leading to massive financial debts and security issues. Traditional security measures such as car alarms often prove ineffective against sophisticated theft techniques. In response to these challenges, modern technological solutions, such as GPS tracking and remote ignition shutdown, have been developed to enhance vehicle security. This project focuses on designing and implementing a Vehicle Tracking System with Remote Ignition Shutdown, integrating GPS, GSM, and Wi-Fi technologies to provide real-time tracking and remote shutdown capabilities. The primary objective of this project is to design and implement a tracking system that enables users monitor their vehicle’s location and remotely disable the ignition in case of theft or unauthorized access. By combining SMS and Wi-Fi-based tracking with IoT-enabled remote shutdown, the system ensures reliable vehicle security. To achieve this objective, a circuit design using proteus software was drawn up after which we assembled the hardware components and mounted them onto the perfboard. The firmware was programmed using C++ within the Arduino framework. The testing phases, unit, integration, and system testing, were conducted to evaluate tracking accuracy, network reliability, and remote ignition shutdown functionality. The results demonstrated that the system effectively provides realtime location updates and successfully executes remote ignition shutdown commands, with minimal latency and high reliability. This project offers a cost-effective, scalable, and adaptable vehicle tracking security solution that enhances theft prevention. This study gives room for future enhancements that could integrate antijamming technologies for improved GPS signal robustness, geofencing capabilities for boundary alerts, hybrid communication systems integrating satellite-based networks for better coverage, and machine learning integration to enhance tracking accuracy, detect theft patterns, and optimize vehicle performance.
