THE EFFECT OF TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION ON COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AMONG PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS IN GWALE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA. KANO STATE
Abstract
This study examines the effect of technology in early childhood education (ECE) and its effects
on cognitive development among primary school students in Gwale Local Government Area,
Kano State. The research aims to explore the impact of technology-based learning tools and
methodologies on cognitive skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and information
processing among young learners. The study utilizes a mixed-methods approach, combining
quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data from teachers, parents, and
students. The findings reveal a positive correlation between the use of technology in ECE and
enhanced cognitive development among primary school students. Technology integration in
early education is seen to improve students' problem-solving abilities, critical thinking skills, and
information processing capacities. However, the study also highlights the need for careful
implementation of technology in ECE to avoid potential negative effects such as over-reliance on
technology, reduced social interaction, and screen addiction among young learners. The
research concludes with recommendations for educators, policymakers, and parents on how to
effectively integrate technology into ECE curriculum to maximize its benefits on cognitive
development while mitigating potential risks.
