IMAGE ENCRYPTION AND DECRYPTION USING RSA ALGORITHM (A CASE STUDY OF BORNO STATE UNIVERSTY)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research investigates the efficiency of the RSA algorithm in encrypting and decrypting images. The RSA algorithm is a public-key encryption technique commonly used in secure communication. The study evaluates the performance of the RSA algorithm in terms of encryption and decryption time, security, and accuracy. The experiment was conducted on various images with different sizes and complexities.
The results demonstrate that the RSA algorithm is an effective method for encrypting and decrypting images, with good performance in terms of speed and accuracy. The encryption and decryption times were measured and compared, and the RSA algorithm was found to be faster than other encryption techniques for images. The security of the algorithm was also tested against potential attacks, and it was found to be robust against most known attacks.
However, further research is necessary to improve the security of the RSA algorithm against advanced attacks, such as quantum computing attacks. Additionally, the study could be expanded to include a comparison of the RSA algorithm with other image encryption algorithms to determine its performance in terms of security and speed. Overall, the RSA algorithm shows promise as a reliable and efficient method for encrypting and decrypting images.
This study also investigates the impact of key size on the performance of the RSA algorithm for image encryption and decryption. The experiment was conducted with different key sizes, and the results show that increasing the key size improves the security of the algorithm but also increases the encryption and decryption times. The optimal key size for image encryption and decryption using the RSA algorithm depends on the desired balance between security and performance.
Moreover, the study examines the effect of compression on the performance of the RSA algorithm for image encryption and decryption. The experiment was conducted with different compression levels, and the results show that compressing the images before encryption significantly reduces the encryption time but increases the decryption time. The optimal compression level for image encryption and decryption using the RSA algorithm depends on the desired balance between encryption and decryption times.
Finally, the study compares the performance of the RSA algorithm with other image encryption algorithms, such as the AES algorithm and the SHA-256 algorithm. The results show that the RSA algorithm performs better in terms of security and speed than the AES algorithm but worse than the SHA-256 algorithm. The SHA-256 algorithm is faster than the RSA algorithm for image encryption and decryption but provides less security.
