VISUALIZATION AND USER INTERFACE FOR FINITE STATE MACHINE SIMULATION
Abstract
Finite State Machines (FSMs) serve as a foundational computational model for representing discrete systems across disciplines such as computer science, digital circuit design, and software engineering. Despite their widespread application, a significant challenge persists in the intuitive comprehension and analysis of FSM behavior, primarily due to the limitations of existing simulation tools which often lack robust graphical interfaces and provide inadequate visual feedback on state transitions. This research addresses this gap by undertaking the design and development of an interactive visualization tool featuring a user-friendly graphical interface for FSM simulation. The study aims to facilitate a more accessible and effective approach to understanding FSM operations. The key objectives include the design of an intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the visual definition of states, transitions, and actions; the implementation of a core simulation engine for real-time execution of FSM logic; and the creation of an interactive environment that allows for dynamic modification and immediate observation of outcomes. Additional capabilities encompass integrated error detection for model validation and features for saving and loading FSM constructs.
