Abstract

The aim of this study is to formulate and evaluate the Physico-mechnical properties of paracetamol tablets formulated using Corn starch-derived Pyrodextrin and polyethylene glycol 1500 (PEG 1500) co-granulates. The cornstarch was heated in an oven at 121°c for 5 hours for pyrodextrinization to occur. On obtaining the dextrin, the dextrin was triturated in a mortar with pellets of PEG 1500 to form granules. The co granules were formulated using different ratio of concentrations of dextrin: PEG 1500 (0.5:1, 1:1, 1:2).Another set of co- granules were produced using starch: PEG 1500 (0.5:1, 1:1, 1:2). Four different batches of tablets were produced. Required quantities of various excipients were weighed and triturated with CSDP-PEG 1500 co-granules in ratio 0.5:1, 1:1 and 2:1 as binders to produce batch A1, A2 and A3 granules. While Corn starch (CS) - PEG 1500 co-granules in ratio 0.5:1, 1:1 and 2:1 as binders were used to produce batch B1, B2 and B3 granules. Dextrin alone and Starch alone were used to produce batches C and D granules respectively. The granules were characterized by measuring the flow properties and were compressed into tablets. Resultant tablets were evaluated for hardness, friability, weight variability and disintegration tests.
