Abstract

This research work was carried out to examine the problems of teaching and learning agricultural science in senior secondary schools in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The population of the study comprised 242 teachers in public schools within Yola South Local Government Area, from which a sample was selected. A survey research design was adopted for the study. The instrument was validated by three experts from the Department of Vocational Education, and the reliability test of the instrument yielded a Cronbach Alpha Coefficient of 0.82. Data were collected using a researcher-made structured questionnaire. The data were statistically analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The findings of the study revealed that agricultural science teachers do not teach properly and are unable to motivate students to study the subject. Additionally, there were no adequate infrastructural facilities, instructional materials, proper monitoring and supervision, or availability of computers for learning facilities. It was therefore recommended that the government should employ skilled and qualified teachers to teach Agricultural Science. Adequate attention should be given to the educational sector, and sufficient funding should be provided to secondary schools to enhance infrastructural facilities, instructional materials, and equipment or machines, which will in turn help to enhance the learning of Agricultural Science in Senior Secondary schools.
