Abstract

The purpose of the research was to assess the quality of sachet water sold around girei metropolitan, Adamawa State. Previous studies found that most sachet water samples were clear and odorless, but some exhibited off-colors and tastes. These deviations, while not directly harmful, suggest potential underlying quality issues that warrant further chemical and microbiological testing. Samples was collected randomly from different points of sale to avoid bias and ensure a fair representation of the sachet water available in the market. Samples was stored in coolers with ice packs during transportation to the laboratory to maintain temperature and prevent microbial growth.Physical parameters such as Color, odor, taste, turbidity, and temperature were assessed with appropriate equipment following standard methods.Chemical parameters such as pH, TDS, nitrate, fluoride, chloride, and heavy metals (lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic) were also analyzed using spectrophotometry and atomic absorption spectroscopy. And lastly Microbiological parameters like Total coliforms, fecal coliforms, E. coli were also determined and all the samples were within the allowable limits set by WHO. The fact that the assessed samples met the standard requirement, presented the primary significance of this research
