DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF ONLINE LIBRARY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (A CASE STUDY OF NORTHWEST UNIVERSITY, KANO)
Abstract
The advancement of technology has revolutionized various sectors, including education and information management. Traditional library systems, which rely on manual processes, often face challenges such as book mismanagement, long queues, inefficiencies in tracking borrowed books, and difficulties in updating records. To address these challenges, this project presents an Online Library Management System—a web-based application designed to automate and streamline library operations efficiently. This system will allow students, researchers, and faculty members to search, borrow, return, and reserve books online, eliminating the need for excessive paperwork and reducing physical visits to the library. Additionally, the platform will feature a user-friendly interface that enhances accessibility, making it easier for users to interact with the system. Library administrators will have dedicated functionalities for managing book inventories, monitoring borrowing activities, and generating reports for decision-making. Security measures such as user authentication and access control will be implemented to prevent unauthorized access and protect user data. In conclusion, the Online Library Management System aims to modernize and optimize library operations, enhancing accessibility, efficiency, and resource management. By transitioning from traditional manual systems to a digital platform, libraries can improve service delivery, minimize workload, and provide users with a more convenient and effective means of accessing academic resources.
