Abstract

ABSTRACT The study examined the effects of Burantashi (Detarium microcarpum) extract on liver enzymes, kidney function, and sperm parameters in albino Wistar rats. Forty rats were divided into five groups: control, low dose (200 mg/kg), medium dose (400 mg/kg), high dose (800 mg/kg), and very high dose (1200 mg/kg) for 28 days. Liver function was assessed through ALT, AST, ALP, and bilirubin levels, while kidney function was evaluated using blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine. Sperm analysis measured count, motility, and morphology. Results showed a dose-dependent impact. While the low-dose group had no significant changes, higher doses led to increased liver enzymes, suggesting liver damage. Elevated bilirubin, BUN, and creatinine in high-dose groups indicated kidney impairment. Sperm parameters worsened with increasing doses. The findings suggest Burantashi extract has potential hepatotoxic, nephrotoxic, and spermatotoxic effects, with the highest dose causing the most toxicity. Further research is needed to assess its safety.
