Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this project was to design and construct an Oldham coupling for the Mechanics of Machine Laboratory in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Kano State Polytechnic. The department aims to provide practical demonstrations for mechanical engineering students, and the Oldham coupling is a crucial device needed to achieve this goal. This project presents the design and construction process of the Oldham coupling, highlighting the importance of modern design tools and 3D modeling software in creating efficient and accurate designs. The design process involved selecting materials, determining dimensions, and analyzing the coupling's performance. The successful completion of this project provides a valuable resource for students, enhancing their understanding of mechanical power transmission systems and the role of Oldham couplings. The project demonstrates the application of theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world engineering practice.
