Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the ability of agro-waste material like coconut shell to remove metal ion from wastewater. The major aim was to carry out the adsorption studies on car wash wastewater using acid activated cocoanut shell, the objective were to determine the effect of Time, Temperature and mass of adsorbent on the extent and percentage of removal of Pb, Zn, Cr, and Fe from water and the extent of removal was found to be dependent on time, temperature and dosage of adsorbent. From the results of time studies 80.85% of Pb was removed in the first 20 minutes which increased to 100% at 80 minutes similarly 88.34% of Cr was removed in 40 minutes while 91.39% of Zn was removed at the same time. In Temperature studies over 70% of Pb and Fe were removed at Room Temperature while 90% of Pb and 95.73% of Cr was removed at 40oC. In mass of absorbent at 1g 87.67% of Pb while at 4g Zn and Cr removed 100%
