The study aims to achieve the following specific objectives: to assess the current level of parental involvement in the education of primary school pupils in the municipal local government area; to evaluate the literacy skills of primary school pupils in the municipal local government area; to analyze the relationship between parental involvement and literacy development among primary school pupils; to identify the barriers to effective parental involvement in the education of primary school pupils; and to propose strategies for enhancing parental involvement to improve literacy skills among primary school pupils.
This study adopts a descriptive survey design, which is suitable for collecting and analyzing data to describe current trends, practices, and attitudes related to parental involvement in enhancing literacy skills. The method of data collection is a questionnaire which will be administered through the head teachers of the selected schools.
The findings indicate strong parental involvement in literacy development despite time constraints and financial limitations. Strategies such as school workshops and community initiatives are recommended to enhance parental engagement.
The study recommends that schools and educational institutions should conduct awareness programs emphasizing the importance of parental involvement in literacy development. These programs can educate parents on effective ways to support their children’s learning at home and also by organizing school-based workshops.
