Abstract

This study examined Excessive Prolonged TikTok Viewing And its Influence on Academic Performance. Six objectives guided the conduct of the investigation. Survey method of research was employed because it was considered most suitable and appropriate due to its cost effectiveness and affordability. Questionnaire was the instrument used to elicit information from 380 sample population . Findings reveals that majority of the respondents agree that they watch ticktock sometimes when they are less busy,the respodent also agree that TikTok usage often distracts student attention during class , Also revealed that some Students perceive TikTok as a tool for learning Students should be encouraged to develop better time management skills and self-regulation strategies to balance TikTok usage with academic responsibilities. Its was conclude that setting specific time limits for TikTok viewing and avoiding it during study hours or lectures may help mitigate its negative impact., institutions and educators could explore the potential of using TikTok as an educational tool, educational content, such as tutorials and academic discussions, should be promoted on the platform to leverage its engaging nature for learning purposes. Students should be encouraged to explore educational videos while being mindful of their overall usage, Universities and institutions should organize awareness campaigns that educate students on the potential negative effects of excessive TikTok use on academic performance. The study recommends that these campaigns should also highlight the benefits of using social media platforms in moderation and encourage students to set boundaries around their usage.Future research could explore the types of TikTok content that students engage with and its impact on their academic performance. Additionally, longitudinal studies are needed to examine the long-term effects of TikTok usage on students' academic careers, mental health, and overall well-being.
