Abstract

The research design for this study is experimental, conducted at the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia. Materials for the production of carrot-based body cream, including fresh carrots, chemicals, and containers, were sourced from the Lafia Modern Market and other vendors. The study population consisted of staff and students of the College. Twenty judges from the College assessed the cream based on six attributes: texture, fragrance, moisture retention, packaging, appearance, and general acceptability. The results indicated exceptional performance in most categories, with moisture retention (96%), texture (92%), and packaging (80%) receiving the highest ratings. Although fragrance had the lowest score (81%), it was still deemed satisfactory. On the whole, the cream achieved a general acceptability rating of 92%, highlighting its favorable reception. Based on these findings, the researcher recommends that governments encourage youths, families, and the unemployed to produce body creams and cosmetics through workshops and conferences to foster self-reliance. Extension workers in Home Economics should provide training for interested individuals to enhance their income-earning capacity. Schools should also promote the production and use of carrot-based body cream as a means of income generation. Additionally, the government should offer soft loans to students and entrepreneurs to establish cosmetic production businesses, enabling them to become self-reliant and create employment opportunities for others.
