ISOLATION AND SENSITIVITY OF BACTERIA ISOLATE FROM VAGINAL DISCHARGE TO ANTIBIOTICS
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Antibiotics resistance to isolates from vagina infection is also increasing. This study was conducted to isolate and identify bacteria associated with vagina infection amongst female student of Benue State polytechnic, Ugbokolo. This cross-sectional study investigated 10 randomly selected female student of Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo with signs and symptoms of vaginas infection, sticks were given to the participant which was used to collect vagina discharge. The swab sticks were then transported to the laboratory where the samples cultured using standard microbiological method and the antibiotics susceptibility testing was carried out using eight different Antibiotics (Augumentine, ciprofloxacin Nitrofurantom, Ceporex,Oflocaxin, Gentamicin and Ceftazidime and Ampicillin). The result of the present study showed that out of the 10 female student of Benue State Polytechnic investigated for vagina infection 4 (42%) were positive while 6 were negative. The brings the prevalence of urinary tract infection among the students to 42%. Three bringing the prevalence of urinary tract infections among the students to 42%. Three bacteria species and species were isolated. The bacteria isolated include; staphylococcus aureus (27.1%), Escherichia coli (49.4%) and Bacillus cerus (23.5%). The results of the Antibiotics susceptibility test shows that the isolates were isolated were resistant to most of the antibiotics used in the study.
