Abstract

The dual challenges of electronic waste and the high costs of traditional home security systems was addressed by this project through the development of an innovative, cost-effective solution using repurposed components from a damaged laptop. The system integrates a microcontroller, GSM module, MP3 module, magnetic sensor, and a power bank made from laptop battery cells. The design methodology involved careful selection and integration of components to ensure compatibility and efficiency, allowing for effective intrusion detection and alerting capabilities. Testing revealed that the system achieved rapid response times, with an average detection time of 0.5 seconds and GSM notification delays of just 2 seconds. The audio alerts produced a volume of 85 dB, ensuring clear notification of unauthorized access. This project demonstrates significant savings compared to conventional security solutions, making it an accessible option for homeowners. In conclusion, this project exemplifies how the reuse of electronic components can create effective security systems while addressing environmental concerns related to e-waste. Future work could enhance the system's functionality with additional sensors and wireless communication capabilities.
