A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE AVAILABILITY AND USE OF OF TRAINING LIBRARY RESOURCES AMONG LIBRARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THE UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN AND THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OFFA, KWARA STATE.

This study aimed to investigate a comparative analysis of the availability and use of training library resources among library school students in the University of Ilorin and the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State. A social survey design was used, and the total population of the study is 1503. One hundred and fifty respondents were used as the sample size for the study and questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. the data collection from the respondents was analysed using frequency count and simple percentage. The result from the analysed that revealed that The availability of library resources is a concern, with many students reporting that they do not have access to certain resources, such as special collections and archives, and audio-visual materials. The awareness of library resources is also a concern, with many students reporting that they do not know about certain resources, such as indexes, abstracts, and bibliographic databases. The frequency of library resource use varies among students, with some using the library daily or weekly, while others use it less frequently. The purposes for which library resources are used include finding course-related materials, conducting research for assignments, accessing academic journals, borrowing books and materials, and viewing special collections. The study highlights The challenges faced by library school students in accessing library resources include limited resources, inadequate technology, difficulty finding materials, time constraints, lack of dedicated study space, insufficient library hours, outdated materials, limited staff support, and lack of digital resources. Based on the findings of the study the study made some recommendations which include, The library should prioritize the provision of adequate library resources, including textbooks, journals, and online databases, to meet the needs of library school students. The library should invest in up-to-date technology, including laptops, printers, and scanners, to support students' research and learning needs. The library should improve its cataloguing system to ensure easy access to all materials.
