Abstract

ABSTRACT This project investigates the multifaceted influence of Nollywood films on cultural dynamics within the Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. The study examines how Nollywood portrays Okpe culture, engages with societal issues, and shapes local identities. Adekunle's content analysis underscores the significance of authentic representations in fostering cultural pride among Okpe residents, while Suleiman's survey-based analysis reveals a strong community affinity for Nollywood as a reflection of Nigerian cultural values. Nwosu's ethnographic insights illuminate cultural identity negotiation and hybridity among Okpe viewers in response to global media consumption. Bello's comparative analysis delves into gender representations in Nollywood and their impact on Okpe societal norms, exploring themes of empowerment and stereotype reinforcement. Mohammed's longitudinal study tracks evolving attitudes and social changes within Okpe society influenced by Nollywood narratives, highlighting the medium's transformative potential on local cultures over time. By synthesizing these perspectives, this project contributes to a nuanced understanding of how popular media shapes cultural identities and societal norms in Nigeria's diverse local contexts.
