EFFECT OF FIRST LANGUAGE ON SECOND LANGUAGE LEARNING AMONG STUDENTS IN SELECTED SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN JERE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, BORNO STATE
Abstract
Second language is any language that a person learns besides his/her mother tongue. According to Noushad (2015) second language learning refers to the process of learning another language after the native language has been learned. This study is guided by contrastive theory. The Contrastive Analysis Hypothesis (CAH): Proposed by Robert Lado (1957), this theory suggests that L2 learners will face difficulties when the structures, sounds, and rules of their L1 differ significantly from those of L2.
