Abstract

ABSTRACT The process of redesigning a country's currency is typically a complex undertaking, impacted by many economic, political, and security considerations. Within the Nigerian setting, a nation struggling with enduring issues pertaining to banditry and criminal activities, the choice to revamp the Naira presents an exceptional perspective to analyse its possible influence in tackling these security difficulties. Banditry has become a significant menace to the nation's stability and security in recent years. Banditry, which encompasses criminal acts like armed robbery, abduction, and livestock theft, has not only led to fatalities and property damage, but has also significantly impacted Nigeria's social and economic structure. The national focus on combating banditry has prompted a thorough reassessment of different techniques and treatments. The study titled "Impact of Naira Redesign in Curbing Banditry in Nigeria" investigates the effectiveness of redesigning the Naira currency as a strategy to combat banditry in Nigeria. This text explores the investigation of how the redesign of the Naira currency in Nigeria might help reduce banditry. It provides a detailed examination of the process of redesigning the Naira, its implications for security, and its potential as a solution for combating criminal activity. The study revealed that Nigeria's security situation in the northwest area is very precarious and unstable, mostly owing to the alarming prevalence of banditry. This has resulted in extensive looting and violence, causing a significant deterioration in the overall level of security across several aspects of life in the region. The study highlights the crucial importance of currency redesign in improving security and deterring illicit activity. A survey was undertaken, in which 100 questionnaires were sent to participants. The result shows that the P-value of the hypotheses was found to be 0.000, which is lower than the significance level of 0.05. Consequently, the null hypotheses were rejected, leading to the conclusion that there is really a link with Naira Redesign and banditry in Nigeria Recommendations lined-up include: The government should provide substantial job opportunities for young individuals who are affected by this issue by implementing initiatives that attempt to tackle the widespread poverty in the northwest region. Continued military endeavours are necessary to effectively combat banditry. People must undergo re-orientation in order to install ethical ideals, reverence for life, and respect for human rights. It is imperative to promote community policing as an effective security mechanism, by establishing local vigilante organisations that possess a deep understanding of the neighbourhood. It is imperative to establish strategies for demobilisation, disarmament, and de-radicalization in order to effectively control the spread of weapons in the region. Promoting the implementation of contemporary technical devices for monitoring individuals and enhancing border security surveillance to combat transnational criminal activities should be advocated.
