INFLUENCE OF AUDIO-VISUAL AIDS ON SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE
Abstract
This study investigated the influence of audio-visual aids on senior secondary school students' academic performance in English Language. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. Twenty senior secondary school students were randomly selected from five secondary schools, making a total number of one hundred (100) secondary school students which served as the respondents for the study. The instrument that was used for this study was a structured self-designed questionnaire. Data collected were collated and analysed with the use of descriptive statistics. The study discovered that charts and diagrams, audio materials, visual materials, audio-visual materials, projectors, textbooks, picture books, story books, television, video players and computers are available for the teaching of English Language in senior secondary schools. The study revealed that charts and diagrams, audio materials, visual materials, audio-visual materials, projectors, textbooks, picture books, story books, television, video players and computers used for the teaching of English Language in senior secondary schools. The study recommended that there should be constant power supply and provision of sufficient time for the use of audiovisual aids by the teachers in secondary schools. Teachers should be provided with technical support towards the use of audio-visual aids.
