Abstract

ABSTRACT This study is aimed to evaluate zinc and copper level in E. coli infected patients. A total of 24 subjects were distributed into two groups of 12 individual each that is the test group and control group. The concentrations of zinc and copper were measured using Agilent FS240AA Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The parameters were exposed as mean±Standard deviation. The difference between mean values were analyzed by the test at 95% significant level. P>0.05 was considered not to be significant. The result of this study showed no significant difference p>0.05 in the mean±SD values in the zinc level in the different group respectively group 1 (0.501±0.628 ppm) and group 2 (0.111±0.628 ppm). There was also no significant difference in the mean±SD values in the copper level in the different group respectively group 1 (0.097±0.178 ppm) and group 2 (0.038±0.019 ppm). Although the age comparison between 17-30years in the test against the control shows a significant difference p=0.033 in zinc which may be due to some immunological response. E.coli is said to be part of gut microbiota, some strains causes intestinal infections but there is no significant changes in the level of zinc and copper
