IMPROVISATION AND UTILIZATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES IN THE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF SOCIAL STUDIES IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ONDO WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ONDO STATE.

This research work was carried out to investigate improvisation and utilization of instructional resources in the teaching and learning of social studies in secondary schools in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State. Four (4) research questions were raised to guide the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised twenty (20)social studies students in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State. Questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse the data. The research questions were answered using simple percentage. The hypothesis were tested inferential statistics involving t-test. The findings revealed that improvisation of instructional resources for teaching and learning of social studies is important. It was concluded that that improvised instructional materials is very important in the teaching and learning of social studies. Improvised instructional materials makes teaching and learning interesting for both the students and the teachers. When instructional materials is been improvised for, students will always want to pay attention to whatever the teacher want to teach in the classroom. Therefore, the study recommended that the there should be strict monitoring and supervision of school administrators by the required supervisory authorities on the management of funds meant for purchasing and maintenance of instructional materials so as to avoid mishandling of such funds through diverting it to other expenditures within the school or elsewhere.
