Abstract

This research investigates the occurrence of dampness in residential buildings in Gidan Kwano, with a focus on three primary objectives: assessing the incidence of dampness, evaluating its impact on residents' living conditions, and proposing practical strategies for prevention. Demographic analysis and on-site investigations revealed a prevalent occurrence of dampness, with rising damp, rain penetration, and condensation identified as primary culprits. The impacts encompassed structural damage, compromised comfort, and aesthetic concerns. Expert recommendations were incorporated to provide a roadmap for effective preventive measures, addressing issues of identified sources of dampness. In conclusion, the findings offer a nuanced understanding of dampness-related challenges in Gidan Kwano. The research underscores the importance of a holistic approach, emphasizing community awareness, proactive preventive measures, and sustainable building practices to create healthier and more resilient living environments. The conclusions drawn provide a foundation for policy interventions, community education programs, and further studies aimed at addressing dampness-related issues in similar settings.
