TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE RITES AND PRACTICES IN NGBO COMMUNITY, OHAUKWU LGA OF EBONYI STATE 1970- 2020

ABSTRACT This comprehensive research project investigates the traditional marriage rites and practices within the Ngbo community of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Ebonyi State. Spanning from historical antecedents to contemporary dynamics, the study offers a detailed examination of the customs, rituals, and socio-cultural significance embedded within Ngbo's traditional marriage ceremonies. Due to the nature of the time period under research, oral interviews were used as primary sources to gather the majority of the information for this study. However, secondary and tertiary materials were also reviewed for this study, including books, Journal articles, essays e.t.c. This study also made use of qualitative method of research in describing and analyzing the resource materials available. The project unfolds across several chapters, each providing unique insights into different facets of Ngbo's traditional marriage practices. In this study, the geographical location and origin of the people is given, the study also discusses in details the stages in which the Ngbo people marriage preparation and ceremony takes place and in the same vein talks about the significance, impacts of civilization, COVID-19, and the likes on their marriage system; the challenges that traditional marriage has undergone and is still undergoing as well as recommendations.
