AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE CHALLENGES OF MANAGING ELECTRONIC RESOURCES IN PUBLIC LIBRARIES (MAIDUGURI PUBLIC LIBRARY)
Abstract
The study examines "An investigation into the challenges of managing electronic resources in public libraries (Maiduguri Public Library)". The Study is guided by three objectives, to: identifying the types and sources of electronic resources available in public libraries, assessing the impact of electronic resource management challenges on library operations, user satisfaction, and service quality and exploring best practices and innovative approaches adopted by public libraries to address electronic resource management challenges and enhance the utilization and effectiveness of electronic resources. A sample of two hundred and fifty four (254) questionnaires was distributed but only two hundred forty five (245) were correctly filled and returned. The instrument used for data collection was questionnaire designed by the researcher. The instrument passed through face validity. The collected Data were analysed using simple frequency table and interpretation was made. Results show there are challenges of managing electronic resources in public libraries. One of the recommendations is that there government and stakeholders should allocate adequate funding to improve the infrastructure, technology and operations of public libraries and regular training programs should be organized to equip library staff with the skills necessary to manage and utilize electronic resources effectively
