Abstract

This study presents a mycological assessment of poultry sold in Bida main markets, fungi contamination of poultry feeds can have severe implications in the health, productive and overall well being of poultry birds. This study aimed at evaluating the level of fungal contamination and type of fungal contamination affecting the quality of poultry feeds sold in Bida. A total (19) vi sample of different feeds types from different location were collected and examined. Sample were culture on PDA, the colonies were counted and the isolates were identified, and mycotoxin were detected using paper chromatography that fungi isolated were Rhizopus spp. Penicillium spp Mucor spp. Aspergillus niger , Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus Fumigatus Saccharomyces spp Aspergillus parasiticus Aspergillus Terrus, Aspergillus Caelatus, Trichoderma spp and Fusarium spp the highest fungal counts (4.25x105 _ +7.22x105 )was found in starter ultimate obtained from old market Bida the mycotoxins detected were Fumonism B1 (FBI) Zearalenone (ZEN) Aflatoxins G1(AFG1) Deoxynivalenol (DON) contamination of potential mycotoxin fungi spp. Aspergillus spp and Fusarium spp are their presents poses a health hazard for poultry birds.
