DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF SMART IRRIGATION SYSTEMS USING IOT (INTERNET OF THINGS)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
A smart irrigation System is employed in the field of Agriculture. In this system, based on the soil type, the water will be provided to Agricultural field. Knowing that in Agriculture, there are two things: the moisture content of the soil as well as the soil. This technique is driven by on/off schedule using electrical power and IOT (Internet of Things) as the accessible internet infrastructure, where the system is automatically activated when the soil moisture is low. The pump will switch ON based on the moisture content. This project is centered on the use of Arduino base. The hardware and Software requirement of this project include Arduino Uno, Soil moisture sensor Temperature/Humidity sensor, Wi-Fi module (ESP8266), GSM module (Android Phone) and Power Supply Unit (PSU). The smart Irrigation System talks more on powering the system with a smart phone with the use of the above shortlisted apparatus. It is clear that the population is growing drastically causing an increase in urban development and landscape expansion which as a result increase the demand for water. In the GCC region, water is becoming a threat with the impact of climate change and the lack of water resources. The main source of water is mostly desalination plants. Irrigation system can reduce water consumption but the current system might not solve the issues of water in the near future.
