EFFECT OF COMBINED CHROMOLAENA, POULTRY MANURE AND BIOFERTILIZER ON SOIL CHEMICAL PROPERTIES AND YEILD OF COWPEA
Abstract
Field experiment was conducted at Adeyemi Federal University of Education Teaching and Research Farm Ondo in South West Nigeria in 2023 to determine the combined application of Chromolaena, Poultry manure and Biofertilizer on soil chemical properties and yield of cowpea. Five (5)kg of poultry manure, 4.5kg of Chromolaena and 600kg of Zytonic M were mixed individually with water. Five (5)ml of Chromolaena combined with ten (10)ml of Poultry manure and ten (10)ml of Zytonic-M was applied to the root of cowpea plants two weeks after planting. The treatments were arranged on Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) and were replicated three times. The soil was sandy loam. Chromolaena, Poultry manure and Zytonic-M used contained reasonable amount of N, P and K. Compared with control, Chromolaena combined with Poultry manure and Ztytonic-M significantly increased soil pH, O, M, N, P, K, Ca, Mg, CEC and base saturation. Compared with control, Chromolaena combined with Poultry manure and Zytonic-M significantly increased number of seeds and weight of seeds. Hence, Chromolaena combined with Poultry manure and Zytonic-M is recommended for growing cowpea in South West Nigeria.
