INCLUSIVE PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMME FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN AKURE SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ONDO STATE.

ABSTRACT The research work was carried out to examine the influence of inclusive physical education programme for students with disabilities in secondary schools, in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State. Two research questions were raised to guide the study. Relevant related literature was reviewed. A total of fifty (50) respondents from schools for student with disability were randomly selected in secondary school in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State. The sample for this study comprises of 50 special school teachers which was drawn from four (4) selected secondary schools in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State using simple random sampling technique that was achieved through balloting. The data collected by the researcher was analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency count and percentages. The findings revealed that Lack of accessible facilities, specialized equipment for students with disabilities, and adapted playing areas can hinder participation and limit activity options, lack of material and facilities, inadequate funding by the government to mention but few. The government, school authority, teachers, community and parents should rise to combat the problems in order to achieve the desired goals. Recommendations were made that Government should provide accessible facilities, specialized equipment for students with disabilities. Schools should provide limited budget for teachers training in order to gather experience in adapting activities for student with diverse abilities and needs.
