A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON VISION BEFORE AND AFTER TRABECULECTOMY AMONG GLAUCOMA PATIENTS SEEN AT ABUBAKAR TAFAWA BALEWA TEACHING HOSPITAL BAUCHI STATE
Abstract
Glaucoma is a disease in which the optic nerve gets damaged, leading to progressive and irreversible loss of vision. Glaucoma can develop at any intraocular pressure (IOP), but elevated intraocular pressure is one of the major risk factors for the development and progression of glaucoma. Trabeculectomy is usually performed for treatment of glaucoma inadequately controlled by maximally tolerated medical therapy. The aim of the study was to determine the visual outcome of a comparative study of visual outcome of trabeculectomy among glaucoma patients seen at abubakar tafawa balewa teaching hospital bauchi, state. A total of forty-eight (47) eyes for 23 persons were included in this study. Males made up 73.7% of the total population while females were 26.3%. Their ages ranged from 15years-70years with a mean age of 48.89±10.21.. With approval of ethical clearance, the subject’s visual acuities were measured with logMAR chart while their intraocular pressures were measured with gold
