Abstract

Male Infertility is a multifaceted condition with complex underlying mechanisms, including disturbances in sperm production, maturation and survival. The multifactorial causes of male infertility, which affects a sizable fraction of couples globally, include genetic disorders, hormone imbalances, and flaws in sperm production. The protein B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL-2), which is essential for controlling apoptosis, may be involved in male infertility, according to recent studies. This study was designed to evaluate the levels of BCL-2 in infertile men. Anthropometric measurements were taken using standard apparatus, body mass index was calculated and blood pressure was also measured. Sexual characteristics were obtained from structured questionnaires. Eighty-eight (88) semen samples were collected through masturbation and coitus into a sterile universal bottle. Sperm fluid analysis (SFA) was determined according to the World Health Organization (WHO) standard. An aliquot was centrifuged, separated and stored at -20oC. BCL-2 was analyzed using the Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method, Data obtained were analyzed statistically with SPSS software version 22 (SPSS Inc. Chicago II. USA).
