NETWORK SECURITY THREAT DETECTION IN A HOME NETWORK
Abstract
ABSTRACT
In recent years, technological advancements have revolutionized the way we secure our homes, with the Internet of Things (IoT) playing a significant role in this transformation. Traditional home security systems often relied on physical barriers, manual surveillance, or closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems that require constant human monitoring. The development of smart intruder detection systems addresses these gaps by combining real-time monitoring, immediate notifications, and automation. This project aims at designing an IoT-based intruder detection system which can detect the entry of intruder into a home and the alert homeowners in real-time, both locally and remotely.
The methodology involves using several components such as a PIR (Passive Infrared) sensor to detect movement, an ESP8266 Wi-Fi module for wireless communication, a 16x2 LCD screen for displaying system information and a buzzer for audible alerts.
The system was implemented with cost-effective and low-power components. When the PIR sensor detects movement, the buzzer immediately sounds an alarm, while the 16x2 LCD screen displays the current status. Additionally, the ESP8266 module sends the alert to a cloud server, ensuring that homeowners receive instant notifications via a mobile app or web interface. This setup ensures a fast and reliable response to potential threats.
The project demonstrates a practical solution for enhancing network security in smart homes by combining physical motion detection with cloud-based alerts. The system is affordable, easy to install, and effective for real-time threat detection. This approach enhances home security, protecting connected devices and personal information from unauthorized access.
