Abstract

The increasing prevalence of cybercrimes and digital offenses has made digital forensics an essential field for law enforcement and organizations to investigate, analyse, and recover evidence from digital devices. This project presents the design and implementation of a Digital Forensic Investigation System (DFIS), aimed at efficiently managing and processing digital evidence to support criminal investigations. The proposed system integrates various forensic tools and techniques, including data acquisition, preservation, analysis, and reporting, within a unified platform. The architecture of the system is built to be scalable, secure, and user-friendly, allowing forensic investigators to perform tasks ranging from file carving and memory analysis to network traffic analysis and metadata extraction. Additionally, the system ensures the integrity and chain of custody of the evidence throughout the investigation process. This project discusses the system's design considerations, its implementation details, and evaluates its performance in real-world case scenarios. The results demonstrate that the DFIS significantly enhances the efficiency, accuracy, and transparency of digital forensic investigations, making it a valuable tool for modern-day cybercrime investigations.
