Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was carried out on Biostratigraphy and Deposition of Environment of Sekuliye Formation of Guyuk and Environs, Yola Arm of the Benue Trough. This research work was carried out in two main stages, field work and Laboratory analysis. During the geologic field mapping exercise, the following equipment’s were used, they include; Global positioning system (GPS), Compass Clinometers, Geological Hammers etc. Laboratory analysis which is Biostratigraphy method was used to determine the microfossils, during Biostratigraphy method which include Disaggregation, Washing, Drying and Picking. The Benthic foraminifera and Planktonic Ostracod are the two basic species. Benthic foraminifera include the Orbitolina, Ammobaculites, Haplophragmoide,and Cytherell And the Planktonic is Globigerinelloides. The Sekuliye Formation is sequence of shale which mostly occurs in yellowish and brownish in color inter- bedded with limestone. The limestone of this formation occurs as fossiliferous, crystalline and fibrous in appearance. By studying Benthic and Planktonic microfossils in sekuleye formation, researchers can gain valuable insights into the geological history of the area and the earth’s past.
