EFFECT OF BARITE ON MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE COMPOSITE
Abstract
The project investigates the effects of Barite on the mechanical properties of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) composites. Barite, a naturally occurring mineral with excellent mechanical and radiation-shielding properties, is combined with HDPE to fabricate composites using compression molding. Various mechanical properties such as hardness test (38.1HV), flexural strength test (125.23Mpa), impact resistance (4.00J/m2), compressive test (266.67Mpa) and tensile strength were analyzed. Results showed that increasing Barite content improved hardness but negatively impacted flexural and tensile strengths. The study concludes that optimizing Barite content is essential for balancing the composite’s mechanical properties for specific applications.
