Abstract

This project explores the key technological components integration and implementation of Building Automation Systems (BAS) for lighting in residential buildings, focusing on their role in enhancing energy efficiency, operational convenience, and safety in modern buildings. As urbanization and technological advancements accelerate, the need for smart buildings that can autonomously manage essential functions has become more pressing. This study examines the key components of BAS, especially in the area of lighting, while highlighting its integration and the benefits it provides. A comprehensive review of literature and survey analysis provided insights into the current state of BAS adoption and the challenges faced in its widespread implementation. Key issues such as high initial costs, privacy and security concerns, and a lack of skilled professionals were identified, though the long-term benefit such as reduced energy consumption, cost savings, and enhanced building management were shown to outweigh these challenges. The project concludes that BAS will play a critical role in shaping the future of sustainable and smart urban environments. As technology evolves, BAS will become more intuitive, efficient, and accessible to a broader range of users. The study also offers recommendations for policymakers, building owners, and BAS developers, emphasizing the need for government incentives, educational programs, cost reduction strategies, and improved data security measures to promote the adoption of BAS.
