EFFECTS OF MAGNETIC FIELD ON PURIFICATION OF ATORI WATER IN ISEYIN TOWN USING STEAM INJECTION
Abstract
Groundwater is a valuable resource and is important to conserve not only the quantity of the underground water supply, but even more its quality. The pollution of groundwater is recognized as a major threat to water resources. The contamination of groundwater by pollutants has become a great concern due to toxicity, health hazard and industrialization. The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of magnetic field and vibration on removal of pollutant from groundwater using steam injection in selected shallow wells within Ogbomoso south Local government area, Oyo State, Nigeria.
Groundwater samples that has been polluted with oil will be collected from various wells at different locations in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. The contaminated water samples will then subject to steam injection only in a 1180 mm × 85 mm × 580 mm dimensioned sandbox equipped with a vibration and magnetic device, this work on groundwater purification is significant in the advancement of Engineering and science due to the need to protect the environment and remediate contaminated sites for clean-up. The study will be carry out in Ogbomoso which is located in the southwestern part of Nigeria (West Africa) between Latitude:8.133, Longitude: 4.267 and her coordinates in degree minute seconds are(WGS84) Latitude: 8 08' 00'', Longitude: 4 16' 00'. The samples that will be collected from area selected randomly across Ogbomoso town are Ayedaade, New Sawmill, and Ogbegun. The experiment will be carried out in the New Fluid Mechanics laboratory of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria. The set up for the experiment are: Steam boiler, Sand box, Condenser, Thermometer, and Pressure guage. Analysis will be done on the sample before treatment and after the treatment, then the results obtained from the analysis will be compared with World Health Organization (WHO). The pH, Dissolve Oxygen (DO), Ec, Turbidity, Nitrate, Potassium, Iron, Zinc, Hardness, Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) were tested before and after treatment.
At the end of this research, it is anticipated that the steam Injection technique will be a satisfy remediation techniques for treatment of groundwater sample. The application of magnetic field and vibration on removal of pollutant from water using steam injection will further improve the quality of treated groundwater.
