Abstract

This project focuses on the design and implementation of a biometric authentication system using iris recognition technology. The system leverages the unique and stable characteristics of the human iris to provide a secure and reliable method for identity verification. Developed using Python for backend processing and MySQL for database management, the system integrates advanced image processing algorithms with a high-resolution infrared camera to ensure accurate and efficient authentication. The implementation included preprocessing techniques such as noise removal and feature extraction using Gabor wavelets to create a biometric template for comparison. Testing with a dataset samples to yield an accuracy rate of 98.5%, demonstrating the system’s reliability and robustness under various conditions. Key features include a user-friendly interface, real-time feedback during authentication, and rapid processing times of under two seconds per request. The system’s benefits include enhanced security, scalability, and adaptability, making it suitable for applications in sensitive environments such as banking, healthcare, and government facilities. Comprehensive documentation ensures ease of use and maintenance, while recommendations for future development include integrating multi-modal biometric features and deploying mobile-compatible versions. This study underscores the potential of iris recognition technology to revolutionize identity verification, offering a secure and efficient alternative to traditional authentication methods.
