DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF STUDENT TO STAFF PROJECT/SEMINAR SUPERVISION/ALLOCATION AND TOPIC REGISTRATION SYSTEM.
Abstract
This project is to develop a web-based system which manage the activities of “Student to Staff Project/Seminar Supervision/Allocation and Topic Registration System”. This system will manage the database and maintain the list of each/group of students that have registered as a finalist in this site, and for those students that been shortlisted who have passed the eligibility criteria as set by the lecturers/supervisor. In the recent past, department have witnessed geometric growth in their yearly collections which pose threat to available resources for storage of intellectual materials and its management. This called for storage of library material in a digital format. The statement of the problem is the manual system using (pen and paper register) in the supervision and allocation of projects to student is characterized by a lot of problems which include, Inability of the project supervisor to know whether a particular topic has been approved already for a student, Duplication in allocating and project topics approved for student, Difficulty and improper documentation of project/seminar topics. These problems prompted the development of a web-based project allocation system to address these challenges. The aim of this project is to develop a web-based system which will help the computer science department to efficiently manage project allocation to student. Objectives are to design the interfaces required to implement the system, to create a database that will be used to store project/seminar supervision/allocation and topic registration system, to implement the design using PHP as the programming language. Model view controller (MVC) methodology was used in the designing system. the database used is MySQL, while implementation was done with PHP, primary and secondary sources were used for data collection. The result of the research is to helps the supervisor to known whether a particular topic has been approved already for a student, easy and proper documentation of allocating project topics, efficiency in entering, updating and retrieving records of allocating project, easy in accessing softcopy of past project, the project also serves as benefit for other researcher that want to embark on this type of project. The proposed system provides a comprehensive solution for managing student project supervision allocation and topic registration. The system modular design, automatic project Allocation, supervisor student matching and progress monitoring features make it an efficient, scalable and user-friendly solution. The programming language used is PHP, MySQL for database and Xampp Server. This language was choosing because of its object-oriented features and class libraries for developing online applications.
