Abstract

ABSTRACT This project is focus on the effect of banana peel ash on stabilization of lateritic soil. The natural soil sample was gotten from Cottage road, Ede. The soil were subjected to preliminary soil tests such as natural moisture content, specific gravity. Engineering test such as atterberg limit test, compaction test and California bearing ratio test were also carried out on the lateritic soil at their natural states and at when the banana peel ash were added to the soil at varying percentage of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10% by weight of soil. The result of strength tests showed that the banana peel ash enhanced the strength of the lateritic soil. The unsoaked CBR value of the soil at its natural state was 4.23% and it got to optimum value of 8.13% by adding 2.5% banana peel ash by weight of soil. It was therefore concluded that the banana peel ash satisfactorily act as cheap stabilizing agents for subgrade purpose.
