Abstract

The main sources of carbon emissions are industry, transport, and energy supply. Other sources include residential and commercial buildings, forestry, deforestation, and agriculture. The study was carried out in Maiduguri, Borno State. The study adopted the survey research design, qualitative and quantitative approach for generating primary data for the study.A sample of (150) respondents were selected and used through simple random sampling techniques for the study. The instrument used for the study is a self-dependent questionnaire. Data collected were analysed using frequency counts and percentage scores, to design the demographic information and answered resaerch questions and was presented in tabular form for discussion. The effectiveness of environmental policies in reducing carbon emissions depends on a combination of factors including policy design, implementation strategies, technological advancements, economic incentives, international collaboration, and societal engagement while environmental policies have the potential to contribute to carbon emission reductions in Borno State, their effectiveness depends on overcoming local challenges, enhancing infrastructure and data capabilities, and ensuring policies are adapted to local realities. Continued efforts in policy design, implementation, monitoring, and adaptation are crucial for achieving sustainable environmental outcomes in the region. The study recommend that government should improve on the existing effort to advocate on the implication of carbon emission to the people of Borno State. And workshops, campaign and education should be given to the people on the dangers of carbon emission and its effect on the health of communities by government.
